Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: Partly cloudy and pleasant Monday and Tuesday, but a chance of showers on Wednesday. Highs will average from the mid 70s to the low 80s with lows from the mid 50s to the low 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 79 and a low of 60.

West Virginia: Today - Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon thundershowers in the southwest. Highs will be in the mid 70s to mid 80s and lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Sunday - Partly sunny and cool, high in the 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - showers and thundershowers will extend from the Gulf Coast states through the lower Appalachians, southern portions of the Ohio Valley and much of the Mississippi Valley as well as the upper and central Great Lakes. Showers will be scattered over western New England, and from Western Montana across the Pacific northwest coast. Showers and thundershowers will also be scattered over northern Arizona. Temperatures will be warm from the Carolinas across Florida and through the lower half of the Plains. Temperatures will be cool from the Upper Great Lakes across the northern Plains and the northern half of the Rockies through the Pacific coast from Washington through northern California. Temperature elsewhere over the nation will continue seasonably mild.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 31 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
