Extended Area Forecast for Thursday through Saturday - Cooler with a chance of showers or thundershowers during the middle of the period, otherwise partly cloudy. Thursday the highs will range from the mid 80s to mid 90s. Friday and Saturday highs will range from the mid 70s to mid 80s. Lows will be in the 60s. Normal Washington temperature are a high of 78 and a low of 59.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Fair with visibility of 5 miles or more. Winds will be from the southeast at 10 to 15 knots shifting to the west at 10 knots or less by nightfall. Waves will average near.

West Virginia: Today and Wednesday - Partly cloudy, warm and humid with mainly afternoon and evening thundershowers or showers, highs will range from the low 80s to low 90s, lows from 60s to low 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain will extend from the central Plateau into the central Rockies, with snow in the higher elevations. Showers and thunderstorms will range from the central Rockies into the middle Mississippi Valley and from the Great Lakes eastward from Virginia to southern and Western New England. There will be widely scattered showers from the northern Plains into the upper Mississippi Valley, through the Ohio Valley, along the Gulf of Mexico coast through Florida and in eastern New England. Skies will be mostly sunny from Oregon and California into the southern Plateau and from the lower Ohio and lower Mississippi Valleys to the East Coast from Georgia to North Carolina. Temperature will be warm from the southern Plains across the lower and middle Mississippi Valley to the south and middle Atlantic Coast. Mild to cool temperatures will prevail across most of the remainder of the country.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 140 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.
