The following actions were taken by the D.C. Board of Zoning Adjustment at its public meeting Sept. 6.

Denied the application of John O. Antonelli for a special exception to operate a parking lot in the residential/limited office district at 1213-1215 St. Matthews Court NW.

Denied the application of Mariam K. Carliner for variances from the lot area and lot width requirements to permit the construction of a single-family dwelling in the one-family detached dwelling district at 5240 Reno Rd. NW.

Granted for one year, with conditions, the application of Banks and isen for a variance from the use provisions to permit an amusement arcade as an adjunct commercial use to a hotel at 1501 Rhode Island Ave. NW.

Granted the application of Larry Quillian for variances from the rear yard and off-street parking requirements to permit an addition to a non-conforming structure to be used as a restaurant in the community business center-medium density district at 641 Pennsylvania Ave. SE.

Deferred the appeal of Kalorama Citizens Association from the decision of Principal Deputy Corporation Counsel Louis P. Robbins that up to two or three mechanical amusement machines are allowed in the community business center-medium high density district and from the decision of the zoning administrator and the Permit Branch in issuing certificates of occupancy allowing mechanical amusement machines at 1812 Adams Mill Rd. NW and 1792 Columbia Rd. NW.

Granted with conditions the application of Highpoint Townhouses, Inc. for a special exception to modify a residential development previously approved by the BZA in the low density apartment house district at 1010-1014 Barnaby Ter. SE.

Deferred further hearing pursuant to D.C. Court of Appeals remand in the appeal of Presidential owners from a 1970 decision of the zoning administrator ruling that the laundry service being performed in the Statler Hilton Hotel at 1001 16th St. NW, for the Washington Hilton Hotel at 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW, is an accessory use and thus does not constitute a separate commercial enterprise.

Deferred the application of the Board of Trustees of the American University for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the low-density apartment house district at 3501 Nebraska Ave. NW.

Granted the application of Charles B. Withers for a variance from the lot width requirements for a proposed subdivision and construction of two new semi-detached dwellings in the one-family semi-detached dwelling district at 4560 and 4562 C St. SE.

Granted the application of 13th and M Joint Venture for special exceptions for permission to construct a new office building and for a reduction in the number of required parking spaces for non-residential uses with such reduction not exceeding 25 percent of the required parking in the residential/limited office district at 1301-1309 M St. NW.

Denied a further hearing on the application of Dominick and Wanda DeCantis for a special exception to permit an automobile repair garage (no body work) in the community business center-medium density district at 1305 Good Hope Rd. SE.

Granted the application of McDonald Bullock for a variance from the side yard requirements to permit an addition to a dwelling which is a non-conforming structure in the one-family detached dwelling district at 2138 32nd St. SE.

Granted the application of William T. Whitehead for a special exception to change a nonconforming use from a first floor doctor's office to an office for the United Planning Organization and to extend a nonconforming use on part of the second floor to include offices on the entire second floor in the row dwelling district at 1801 9th St. NW.

Deferred the application of Paul Levy to change a nonconforming use from a retail book store to a retail book store with nine mechanical amusement devices in the central business district at 918 14th St. NW.

Granted for one year the application of the estate of H. K. Willard and Frederick Richmond for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the medium-density apartment house district at 1627-31-33-35 Q St. NW.

Granted for five years the application of the Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C. for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the residential/limited office district at 1509-13 20th St. NW.

Granted for four years the application of Melvin L. Clark Jr. for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the residential/limited office district at 813 4th St. NW.

Denied the application of Jack Bachman for a variance from the use provisions to permit an office in the row dwelling district at 2142 Cathedral Ave. NW.

Granted for four years the application of Thomas E. Clark, Inc., for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the one-family detached dwelling district at the rear of 4434 Connecticut Ave. NW.

Granted for one year the application of Inez Cushard for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the one-family semi-detached dwelling district at the rear of 4926 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

Granted the application of Sen. and Mrs. Charles Percy for a variance from the open court requirements to permit an addition to the third floor of a single-family row dwelling in the row dwelling district at 1691 34th St. NW.

Deferred the application of William Parr for a special exception to continue the operation of a social service center to be operated by Special Approaches in Juvenile Assistance in the medium-density apartment house district at 1743 18th St. NW.

Deferred the application of Ruth V. Rhodes for a variance from the use provisions to permit the use of all floors in the row dwelling at 1362 Kenyon St. NW as an office in the row dweeling district.

Granted conditionally for two years the application of Robert N. Wolpe for a special exception to extend a nonconforming use to permit a restaurant to be extended to part of the front and side yards (outdoor cafe) in the medium-density apartment house district at 1701 20th St. NW.

Deferred the application of Sunderland Jointed Venture for a variance from the use provisions to permit the use of the first floor, Suite 100, as a general office in a residential/limited office district at 1906 Sunderland Place NW.

Deferred the application of Howard Bernstein, et. al., for a special exception to continue the use of a parking lot in the medium-density apartment house district at 1606 Corcoran St. NW.
