Extended Area Outlook for Saturday through Monday: Partly cloudy Saturday with a chance of showers in the mountains. Highs will be in the mid 60s to mid 70s and lows in the mid 40s to mid 50s. Sunday and Monday will be variable cloudiness with a chance of showers, highs in 70s and lows in 50s. Normal Washington temperatures, for the period will be a high of 75 and a low 56.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be northerly at 10 to 20 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be 2 feet.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, high from mid 40s to mid 70s and lows from around 40 to mid 40s with some 30s in the mountains and eastern panhandle. Friday - Mostly sunny, high in 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Sunny weather will predominate over much of Pacific Coast, Plateau region, northern Rockies, Central Plains, middle Mississippi Valley and upper Great Lakes. Rain showers are forecast for New England, while rain and thundershowers will be scattered from eastern Texas through much of the Gulf and south Atlantic Coast states. Cooler than normal temperatures will move into New York state, the lower Great Lakes region, and lower Michigan and continue over the remainder of the upper Great Lakes and Southwest and central Texas. Seasonably warm readings are expected throughout Kansas and the south and central Pacific Coast, with hot temperatures persisting along the southern California coast. Elsewhere around the nation temperatures will be mild.

The Council of Government's Air Quality index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 44 for the pollutant, photochemcial oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity.The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain at 2.9 feet today.
