A 5-year-old girl was shot to death at her home in Brandywine yesterday, and a 10-year-old boy was charged in her death, Prince George's County police reported.
Lori Ann Tippett was shot once with a shotgun about 8:30 a.m., police said. She lived with her parents, Bernard Sam Tippett and Christine Victoria Tippett on Rte. 301 in Brandywine, just north of Rte. 5.
Police said the shooting occured after an argument in the home. After the shooting, police said, a second boy called the fire department, which notified police.
The Tippett home is located in a sparsely populated rural area in southern Prince George's County. Family members referred questions to police yesterday.
Acquaintances of the family said the Tippetts have two other childrens, Timmy, 10, and a 13-year-old daughter. Timmy is a student in the fifth grade at Brandywine Elementary School, the Daughter attends Gwynn Park Junior High School.
Police said the juvenile arrested in the shooting was taken before a judge late yesterday for a hearing to determine whether he should be held. The results of the hearing and the boy's name were withheld because of Maryland law governing suspects under 16-years of age.
