Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday - Fair Saturday, chance of showers Friday and Sunday. Highs will average near 70, lows in the upper 40s and 50s, Normal Washington temperatures are a high of 74 and a low of 54.

West Virginia: Today - Mostly cloudy, highs in the 60s, lows from the mid 40s to mid 50s. Thursday - Partly cloudy, highs from the mid 60s to low 70s.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Increasing cloudiness with a chance of showers. Visibility will be 1 to 3 miles diminishing to less than 1 mile in rain. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15 knots. Waves will average 1 foot or less.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rainshowers will be scattered over much of Montana and the upper Great Lakes. Showers and occasional thundershowers, will be scattered along the Gulf Coast and Florida. Rainshowers will also extend from the Applachians through the lower Great Lakes and across the Northeast from southern New England through the northern Atlantic Coastal states. Temperatures will be warm over southern Florida and the southern California coast. Mild temperatures will extend from the southern half of the Atlantic Coast across the Gulf Coast, from Texas across the southern Rockies through the Southwest and the Pacific states. Temperatures elsewhere over the nation will be generally cool.

The Council of Governments Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 25 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidents. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the Index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 2.9 feet today.
