The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 7 general election is Saturday, Oct. 7. Throughout the state, persons who have not voted at least once in the past four years must register to vote in the upcoming election. Persons registering to vote for the first time will need to know their social security number, but no documentation is required.

The deadline to vote in person by absentee ballot is Saturday. Nov. 4. Election registrars offices throughout Virginia will be open the two Saturdays before the election, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, for absentee voting in person. The deadline to apply to vote by absentee ballot by mail is Thursday. Nov. 2, and mailed ballots must be received by the electoral boards before the polls close Nov. 7.

Alexandria - Registration will be in Room 101 of the City Hall today and tomorrow, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will also be held at the Burke Library, 4701 Seminary Rd., and Duncan Library, 2501 Commonwealth Ave., today and tomorrow, 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The registrar's office at City Hall will be open the two Saturdays before the election, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for absentee voting in person. Call 750-6236 for information.

Arlington - Registration will be held in Room 130 of the Arlington County Court House today and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will also be held tonight, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Arlington's six branch libraries, and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the branch libraries and the Central Library.

Fairfax City - Registration will be in Room 201 of City Hall, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. saturday.

Fairfax County - Registration will be held at the registrar's office on the third floor of 4031 University Dr., today, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; at all county libraries wiht regular Thursday evening hours, tonight, 7 to 9 p.m.; at all county libraries Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and in the lobby of the Massey Building, 4100 Chain Bridge Rd., today and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Both offices will be open weekdays, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., except for Thursdays when they will be open to receive absentee ballots in person, from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 4.
