Maryland Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy and windy, high in mid 50s to the west to mid 70s in the southeast, low from 40s to around 60. Saturday - Sunny and breezy, high in mid to low 70s.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be northwesterly at 12 to 20 knots. Small draft, advisories may be required. Waves in unprotected waters will be 2 to 3 feet.

Extended Area Outlook for Sunday through Tuesday: Cool sunny days will prevail through the period. Highs will be in the 60s and lows in the 30s to upper 40s. Readings will be 5 to 10 degrees colder in the mountains. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 73 and a low of 52.

West Virginia: Today - Variable cloudiness, breezy and cool, with a chance of occasional showers. The highs will be from the mid 50s to the low 60s and lows in the 40s. Saturday - Variable cloudiness and breezy, high in the 50s.

The Nation Yesterday: Cool air continued to sweep into the Midwest, and is expected to bring frost deep into the Plains. Frost or freeze warnings for tonight have been posted over western though central South Dakota, western as well as northeastern Nebraska, also west through north central Kansas. Rainshowers continued eastward of the cool air. By mid afternoon these extended from the northern Plains across the upper Great Lakes, through western portions of the lower Ohio Valley and the western Gulf states into north central Texas. Showers and thundershowers were also scattered from Florida through the Atlantic Coast states into Virginia. By early afternoon, partly cloudy or clear skies reached from the central Plains to the clouds which developed along the Pacific Coast. Tropical storm Irma continued northeastward over the Atlantic Ocean. By 11 am CDT, Irma was about 150 miles north of Tercelra Island in the Azores. The storm was moving northeastward about 25 mph.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rainshowers and occasional thundershowers will extend from Florida through the Atlantic Coast, across the northern two thirds of the Appalachians, the upper Ohio Valley, northern portions of the lower Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes. Temperatures will remain warm over southern Florida and the southern California coast. Mild temperatures will extend over the remainder of the Pacific coast through the southern half of the Plateau region, as well as along the Gulf Coast, much of Florida and the southern half of the Atlantic Coast. Elsewhere, temperatures across the nation will remain cool.
