The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers or thunderstorms will spread across southern Texas and the lower Great Lakes.Skies will be sunny from the West Coast states across the Rockies and most of the Plains, from the Mississipi Valley and the Upper Great Lakes to the south and middle Atlantic Coast states, and over portions of the north Atlantic Coast states. Temperature will be warm through western California. Mild temperatures will prevail across much of the remainder of the nation.

The council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 a.m. period was 15 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 2.9 feet today.
