Violinist Daniel Haeifetz will be featured solonist for the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra's opening concert Oct. 28. Heifetz will perform the Sebelius "Violin Concerto." The program will include Beethoven's "Leonore Overture No. 3" and Moussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." Heifetz will conduct a master class for the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra the same day.
A holiday concert Dec. 10 is advertised as a potpourri of music, mime, dance, juggling, acrobatics and audience singing. Television newsman Jim Vance will appear as the narrator for Prokobev's "Peter and the Wolf." Three performances are scheduled at 1 p.m. 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The Jan. 20 orchestra program will include William Averitt's "Elegy" with flute solo by Frances Lapp Averitt, as well as Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins," Berlioz's "Roman Carnival Overture" and Brahams' "Symphony No. 1."
The Feb. 10 program will include a series of popular favorites selected in response to an audience survey conducted last season. A March 17 concert will feature Gilbert Johnson as soloist in the Haydn "Concerto for Trumpet," and an April 7 program will spotlight four soloists in Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 2."
Pianist Lili Kraus will give a solo performance with the Fairfax Symphony May 19. Kraus will play Suhumann's "Piano Concerto in A Minor." She will conduct a master class the same day.
All concerts but one are scheduled in the Fairfax High School, 3500 Old Lee Hwy. (The March 17 concert will be at West Springfield High School. 6100 Rolling Rd., Springfield.) Concerts begin at 8 p.m. For more information, call 821-8118.
The McLean Community Center has announced its fall arts season in the Alden Theatre, 1236 Ingleside Ave. Included are a chamber orchestra concert series, a couple of play productions and several puppet shows.
McLean hosts Alexandria's Port City Playhouse for one performance of "Little Mary Sunshine" at 8 p.m. Oct. 13. The Bob Brown Marionettes will perform "Peter and the Wolf" at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 15. The McLean Chamber Orchestra and Chorale will give its initial fall concert at 8:15 p.m. Oct. 17, featuring works of Beethoven, Bach and Haydn.
The November schedule includes the McLean Center Theatre production of "Dail 'M' for Murder," beginning at 8 p.m. nightly on Nov. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18.
A special concert Nov. 12, sponsored by the McLean Chamber Orchestra (MCO) and The Guitar Society of Washington, will feature the music of Vivaldi and Handel. The annual chamber orchestra and chorale holiday "pops" concert is planned for 3 p.m. Dec. 17. A showcase of young artists competition is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6, and the orchestra's annual benefit concert will take place at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 20.
Bob Brown Marionettes will return for another production, "Nutcraker," Dec. 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31. Saturday's performance will be at 2 p.m.; all others will be at 3 p.m.
Great Falls Players will offer an "English Music Hall" variety show at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10, and Bob Brown Marionettes will reappear with "Hansel and Gretel" at 3 p.m. Feb. 25. The McLean Chamber Orchestra will perform once again at 8 p.m. Feb. 27.

Fairfax youngsters may be seen acting, singing and dancing their way through the Fairfax County Children's Theater production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" Dec. 1, 2 and 3. The show will open at West Springfield High School, 6100 Rolling Rd., with a Friday performance at 7:30 p.m. Shows will continue that weekend, with Saturday and Sunday matinee; times to be announced later.
