A public information meeting will he held tonight on design plans for the proposed $1.3 million Mount Vernon District Park indoor swimming pool, which includes facilities for handicapped and elderly people.
The meeting begins at 8 p.m. in the Belle View Elementary School cafeteria, 6701 Fort Hunt Rd., Alexandria.
The plans will be presented by the Fairfax County Park Authority staff and the architectural firm of Hughes Group Architects, of Reston. The public is invited to attend and ask questions about the plans before they are completed. Parking for the handicapped will be available.
The proposed pool has been designed as an addition to the Mount Vernon Sports Complex at Belle View Boulevard and Fort Hunt Road. Mount Vernon District Park currently has an ice rink, trails and a conservation area. Construction is scheduled to begin next spring. The plans include a 25-meter pool, a diving area and deck, an instructional pool for tots, storage areas, office and first aid rooms, lobby and corridors, exercise room, locker rooms, stairs, spectator areas, sun deck, parking and exterior walks.
Funds for the project are available from a 1977 park bond referendum.
Interested people may view the pool design development plan at the Mount Vernon District Park ice rink or at the Fairfax County Park Authority Headquarters, 4030 Hummer Rd., Annandale, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
