Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday - Variable cloudiness through Sunday with a chance of showers Saturday night and Sunday. Monday sunny and cooler. Highs will average in the 60s to mid 70s, lows from the 40s to mid 50s. Normal Washington temperatures are a high of 70 and a low of 50.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Variable cloudiness with a chance of afternoon and evening showers. Visibility will be 5 miles or more diminishing to 1 to 3 miles in rain. Winds will become southwesterly at near 10 knots by evening. Waves will average 1 to 2 feet.

West Virginia: Today and Friday - Variable cloudiness with a chance of showers today, high both days from the mid 60s to the low 70s, lows from the mid 40s to low 50s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - There will be scattered showers or thunderstorms across Montana, from the Great Lakes through the Ohio Valley and New England, and over much of Florida. Skies will be mostly sunny from the West Coast states across the central and southern Plains. Temperatures will be mostly warm along the California Coast. Cool temperatures will extend from the northern and central Plateau across the northern and central Plains to the Atlantic Coast states. Most of the remainder of the nation will continue mild.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 47 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 2.9 feet today.
