West Virginia: Today and Thursday - Sunny, highs from the upper 50s to the mid 60s, lows in the 30s to near 40.

Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday - Fair through the period. Highs will average in the 60s, lows in the 40s. Normal Washington temperatures are a high of 62 and a low of 43.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Fair with visibility of 5 miles or more. Winds will be out of the north of nearly 10 knots: Waves will average one foot or less.

The Nation Yesterday: Snow continued to fall in the higher elevations in portions of northern and central Nevada, with rain reported in the lower regions. There were showers or thundershowers in northern California, south central New Mexico and Mississippi Valley, the Southeastern corner of Arkansas and southern Florida. Much of the remainder of the nation had clear to partly cloudy skies. High temperature readings in the 70s and 80s extended along the southern California coast across southern Arizona, and from the southern Plains across the lower half of the Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley to the East Coast from Florida to the Carolinas. High temperatures across most of the remainder of the country were in the 50s and 60s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers, with snow extend from the Sierras and the great Basin across Arizona to southern New Mexico. There will be widely scattered showers in extreme southern Texas and Florida. Skies will be mostly sunny across the remainder of the nation. Temperatures will be cool from the Pacific Coast through the Plateau to the Rockies and western Texas, and from Tennessee and the Carolinas through the lower Great Lakes and New England. Mild temperatures will prevail throughout the remainder of the nation.

The Council of Government's Air Quality index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 20 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants, Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 2.9 feet today.
