William T. Marche, 62, coowner of Marche and Co. Inc. florist shop in Hyattsville, died of cancer Sunday at Washington Hospital Center.
Born in Hyattsville, he had worked in the family business since he was a youth. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland's College of Agriculture.
He was the fourth generation of his family to work as a florist. Marche and Co. was founded by his father, the late William F. Marche, in Washington in 1908. His father died in 1919, and his mother, the late Augusta E. Marche, continued to operate the business.
She moved the shop to Hyattsville in 1922. Since her death in 1972, William Marche and a sister, Louise C. Marche, have been coowners of the firm.
Mr. Marche served with the Army in World War II, participating in the North African, Sicilian and European campaigns. He received the Bronze Star.
He was an active member of the Hyattsville Lions Club, and belonged to the Holiday Yacht Club near Annapolis. He had a summer home at Chesapeake Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Marian G., of the home in Upper Marlboro, and two sisters, Louise, of Hyattsville, and Esther M. McVey, of College Park.
