Three candidates are seeking an open seat on the Arlington County Board. The term is for four years.
Stephen H. Detwiler, 34, is running as an Independent candidate for the County Board, with an endorsement form the Arlington Republican Party.
Detwiler, a vice president of the First Federal Savings and Loan of Arlngton, has a bachelor's degree in business administration from George Washington University.
A native Arlingtonian, Detwiler is president of the Arlington Kiwanis and a member of the board of directors of the Arlington Red Cross.
He also served on the Arlington United Way campaign and is a member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
Detwiler, his wife and two sons live at 5512 Williamsburg Blvd.
Richard E. Gardiner, 26, is an Independent candidate for the Arlington County Board, who is running with the endorsement of the Libertarian Party.
A resident of Arlington since 1976, Gardiner is a lawyer with the National Rifle Association. A former U.S. Naval officer. Gardiner holds an engineering degree from Union College and a law degree from the International School of Law.
Gardiner lives at 4990 Columbia Pike.
Joseph N. Pelton, 34, is running for the Arlington County Board with endorsements from the Arlington Democractic Party and the Arlingtonians for a Better County.
Pelton, who earned a doctorate in political science from Georgetown University, is executive assistant to the director of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization.
Pelton is past president of the Arlington County Civic Federation, past president of the Alcova Heights Civic Association and the Barcroft School PTA. Pelton has also served as vice chairman of the Arlington Democratic Committee and campaign manager for state Del. Warren Stambaugh (D-Arlington).
An Arlington resident since 1966, Pelton, his wife and three children live at 801 S. Randolph St. Commissioner of Revenue
Three candidates are seeking the post of Arlington Commissioner of Revenue to fill an unexpired term that ends Dec. 31, 1979.
Clyde Boden is running as an Independent candidate.
Boden, 57, is a management analyst with the Army. He is a graduate of the Army War College and has a law degree from COlumbus University.
Boden is chairman of the Arlington Districct Council on Ministries of the United Methodist Church and past president of the National Defense Masonic Club.
He lives at 512 N. Livingston St.
Leo Urbanske, 55, is running as an Independent with Republican endorsement.
Urbanske, a former member of the Arlington County Board, is an employe of the C&P Telephone CO. An Arlington native, Urbanske attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
He lives at 2730 N. 24th St.
Geraldine Whiting, 49, is running as a Democrat.
Whiting, who owns and operates an Annandale service station, attended the University of Toledo. She lives at 3625 N. Harrison St.
