Maryland and Virginia: Today - Sunny in the east and partly cloudy in west portions, high mainly in the 50s with lows from the 20s to low 40s. Sunday - Cloudy, high in the 40s and low 50s.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair, visibility more than five miles. Winds will be northwesterly at 10 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be one foot.

Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday: Cloudy and cool with a chance of showers on Monday, then becoming fair and warmer on Tuesday and Wednesday. The highs will average in the 40s to near 50 and lows in the 20s to mid 30s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period will be a high of 51 and a low of 34.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, high in 40s, low in mid 20s to mid 30s. Sunday - Cloudy with rain likely, high in upper 30s and 40s.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER FORECAST for today - snow flurries will extend from western New York across northeastern New York into northern Maine. Scattered rain-showers, with snowshowers over the mountains will cover Colorado and New Mexico. Rain will occur from the southern half of the Great Plains across Texas and change to showers with a few thundershowers over the lower Mississippi Valley across Alabama and Tennessee. Scattered snow flurries will reach from the northern Great Lakes region through the northern Great Plains over the northern Rockies. Scattered rainshowers, with snow over the mountains, will extend from Washington across northern Idaho into northern Oregon. Elsewhere most skies will be partly cloudy. Cold weather will continue from much of California East across the southern half of the Rockies through West Texas and also over the Pacific Northwest. Most of the Gulf Coast states will be mild, but elsewhere it will be cool.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 10 a.m. period was 10 for the pollutant, carbon monoxide. Index values between 3 and 25 indicate good air quality. When the index excess 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 3.0 feet today.
