Extended Area Forecast for Sunday through Tuesday -- Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the last half of the period. Highs will range from the 40s on Sunday to the 50s on Tuesday, lows from the 30s to the low 40s. Normal Washington temperatures are a high of 49 and a low of 32.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay -- Cloudy with a chance of rain tonight. Visibility will be 1 to 3 miles diminishing to less than 1 mile in rain. Winds will be from the northeast at 10 to 15 knots shifting to the southeast by nightfall.

The National Weather Forecast for today -- Rain will fail from the northern and central Pacific Coast region into the Plateau, changing to snow and spreading through the northern and central Rockies and the middle Mississippi Valley to the middle and lower Great Lakes. Rain will also range through the south and middle Atlantic Coast states, with scattered showers from the upper Ohio Valley into New England. Skies will be sunny to mostly sunny over the remainder of the nation. Temperatures will be mild from the Pacific Coast to the Plateau, and from the middle Atlantic Coast states to New England.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 10 for the pollutant, carbon monoxide. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.
