Laura A. Kovach, 43, a chemist and technical editor at the Food and Drug Administration, died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda Tuesday after a heart attack.
Mrs. Kovach was born in Lowell, Mass. and graduated from Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. She came to Washington in 1956 and worked as an indexer in the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.
She joined the FDA in 1961 as a research chemist. Later she became a technical editor in the agency's bureau of foods and also was assistant editor of the foods and also was assistant editor of the Journal of Official Analytical Chemists. She retained these positions until her death.
Survivors include her husband, Edmund I. Kovach, of the home in Bethesda: a son, Stephen C., also of the home: a stepson, Edmund G., of San Francisco: a stepdaughter, Katherine Pitt, of Louisville; her mother, Anne B. Coburn, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a brother, Coast Guard Cmdr. Walter M. Coburn, of Gaithersburg.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Children's Hospital, or to the Hungarian Knights of Malta Relief Fund, 2810 Upton St. NW., Washington, D.C., 20015.
