West Virginia: Today-Cloudy with a chance of light rain or snow, high in the 30s to low 40s, lows in the 30s. Wednesday-Snow changing to rain, highs from the mid 40s to the mid 50s.

Extended Area Forecast for Thursday through Saturday-Chance of rain Thursday, fair Friday and Saturday.Highs will average from the 40s to the low 50s, lows from the mid 20s to the mid 30s. Normal Washington temperatures are a high of 43 and a low of 28.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay-Fair with visibilty of 5 miles or more. Winds will be out of the northeast at 10 to 20 knots. Waves will average 1 to 2 feet.

The Nation Yesterday: Snow fell across much of Nevada and south-Idaho, and into the northern and central Rockies. This strom also brought heavy rain to southern California and the lower elevavations of Arizona and western New Mexico. On the East Coast snow continued over western New York state and reached into the mountains of West Virginia, while rain was widely scattered over portions of Virginia and the Carolinas. Winds were still strong along the North Atlantic coast. Mild temperatures continued from the southern half of the Plains eastward.

The Nationa I Weather Forecast for today-Snow or snow showers will extend from eastern Nevada and the mountains of Arizona through the north and central Rockies Montana, and across North Dakota to Minnesota. Rain will fall in the lower elevations of the southern Plateau, New Mexico and the extreme southern California coast.In the East there will be snow in northern half of the Ohio Valley. Sunny skies will reach across the Pacific Northeast, the north Atlantic Coast and Florida. Elsewhere partly cloudy to cloudy conditions will prevail. Mild temperatures will continue from the southern Plains through the lower and middle Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley and into the Gulf Coast region. It will be cold over most of the remaining western and northern sections of the country.

The Council of Government's Air Qualtiy Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 13 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quanlity. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 3.4 feet today.
