Two young Montgomery County men were killed Friday night in separate automobile accidents in the county, police reported. Two other persons were also seriously injured in the crashes.
The first accident, shortly before 9 p.m., claimed the life of Steven Girt, 24, of 103 Melbourne Ave., Silver Spring and seriously injured Scott Jeffrey Gann, 22, of 3024 Bel Pre Rd., Wheaton. Gann was in critical condition in the intensive-care unit at Suburban Hospital yesterday.
According to police, both men were riding in a car traveling east on Gude Drive near Southlawn Lane when the car went out of control, crossed the center lane and struck a utility pole. Both men were thrown from the car, police said.
In the second accident, Stanley Lynn Shipe, 18 of 16801 Oakmont Ave., Gaithersburg, was killed and Penny Elizabeth Hunter, 18, of 17659 Amity Dr., Gaithersburg, was seriously injured, when a car driven by Shipe's brother, Harold, went out of control, police said.
Police said that harold Eugene Shipe, 23, was driving east on Damascus Road near Griffith Road in Damascus about 10:10 p.m. Police said that the car went out of control, crossed the center line, struck an embankment and crossed the road again, traveling another 65 feet before striking a tree.
According to police, Hunter was in critical condition. Harold Shipe, of the same address as his brother, was treated and released at Montgomery General Hospital.
