West Virginia: Today-Mostly sunny, high in the 30s, lows in the teens and 20s. Increasing cloudiness tonight through Friday with snow or rain possible, highs from the 40s to the low 50s.

Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday-Chance of precipitation Saturday and early Sunday, Fair Monday. Highs will average in the 40s at the beginning of the period, in the 30s by the end, lows will mostly be in the 20s. Normal Washington temparatures are a high of 43 and a low of 28.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay-Fair with visibility of 5 miles or more. Winds will become variable at 10 knots or less. Waves will average 1 to 2 feet.

The Nation Yesterday: Snow showers extended over much of Montana, the northern Rockies and were scattered over the mountains of eastern Oregon. Snow was also scattered over western New York state and along Lake Superior. Rainshowers continued over much of Florida.

The National Weather Forecast for Today-Rainshowers will extend over Florida and southern Georgia. Snow will reach from Lake Michigan across the upper Mississippi Valley, the northern Plains, the central and upper Missouri Valley, the northern half of the Rockies and from Idaho through Utah, with snow changing to rain and continuing southward into northern Arizona. Temperatures will be generallu mild over the southern Missouri Valley across eastern Kansas and Okalahoma into northern Texas. Temperatures will be very cold over the Rockies, the upper Missouri Valley and western portions of the Dakotas. Elsewhere, temperatures will be seasonably cool or cold.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 12 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthly and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.

The National Weather Service forecast the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 5 feet today.
