Catherine Watkins, 66, a missionary with the Love of God Holiness Church in Washington and an area resident for 52 years, died of cancer Tuesday at her home in Cedar Heights. Md.
Mrs. Watkins was born in Leesville, S.C. She lived in Winston-Salem, N.C., before moving here with her family in 1926.
About 20 years ago, Mrs. Watkins became active in the Newborn Church of God in Christ is Prince George's County. For the past fur years, she had worked as a missionary for the Love of God Holiness Church here.
She and her husband, John, a retired engineer whom she married in 1928, helped to organize the church's prayer line, a 30-minute religious radio show that is broadcast Monday through Friday from Annapolis.
In addition to her husband, of the home in Cedar Heights, she is survived by six children, Gloria Jean Freeman, also of the home, Isabell Greene, also of Cedar Heights, Shirley Hopkins and Catherine Epps, both of Landover, Elliott, of Washington, and James, of District Heights; three sisters, Mattie Wilkerson, Bessie Chappell and Lacy Scott, all of Cedar Heights; a brother, Willie Black, of Palmer Park, 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
