A female employe of the District of Columbia Department of Corrections allegedly was raped Friday at the city's penal complex at Lorton, and an inmate is under investigation in connection with the incident, authorities reported.

The incident occurred at Lorton's Youth Center No. 1, a medium-secuity facility that houses about 300 men sentenced under the Youth Corrections Act, a corrections department spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman, who has been working with the corrections department for seven years, said it was the first such incident at Lorton to come to her attention.

According to a corrections official, the victim was closing an office at the youth center shortly after 5 p.m. when a man entered, made sexual advances and conversation and "dragged her across the hall to a bathroom where the alleged assault occurred."

Fairfax County police, who have jurisdiction at the center, one of five penal institutions run by the city at Lorton, said they are investigating but have placed no charges.

The corrections department declined to identify the inmate under investigation but said he was serving a 10-year sentence for rape and assault.

According to the corrections spokeswoman, Youth Center No. 1, Lorton's newestfacility, includes a school and was designed as a model of its kind.

The number of women employed there could not be learned immediately, but the spokeswoman said women are permitted to work there in various jobs.
