Extended Area Forecast for Sunday through Tuesday -- Chance of morning rain or snow Sunday before clearing and becoming fair through Tuesday. Highs will be from mid 30s to upper 40s, lows will bein 20s.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today -- Fair with chance of snow tonight. Visibility will be good today, becoming poor tonight. Winds will be from the north at 8 to 15 knots during the day and from the east tonight. Waves will be around 1 foot.

The Nation Yesterday: A storm warning continued across portions of New England, Illinois, southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, eastern through southwestern Nebraska and the eastern two thirds of South Dakota. Thunderstorms were scattered from central Texas into Kansas. Rain on top of snow was reponsible for flooding in northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kanses. There was severe icing in southwestern Iowa. Extending across northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.

The National Weather Forecast for today -- Snow will extend from eastern North Dakota across the northern fier of states into Lake Brie and from western Pennsylvania into central Kansas. Rain will reach from western Virginia into the Florida Panhandle, across the lower half of the Mississippi Valley and scaffered into south Texas. Snow will also continue over the southern half of the Rockies into the mountains of northern Arizona. Rain will remain along the Pacific Northwest Coast. Temperatures will be mild from the northern Florida and the Gulf States through much of Oklahoma and central Texas. Elsewhere, temperatures over the nation will remain seasonably cool or cold.

The Council of Governments' Air Qualify Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 17 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0-24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will continue to be good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River Stage at Little Falls should remain near 3.8 feet today.
