The Nation Yesterday: As much as 6 inches of snow fell in south-western Minnesota, while winds reached 40 m.p.h. in Nebraska, 50 m.p.h. in South Dakota and gusted up to 66 m.p.h. in wstern Texas. Travelers advisories for today are continued over southern Missouri, eastern lowa, east central Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Indiana and the portion of Montana east of the Continental Divide.

The National Weather Forecast for Today -- Showers and thunder showers will extend from the northern Texas coast to the Florida panhandle, across the central Gulf states and the Tennessee Valley into southern portions of the Ohio Valley. Rain will change to snow from the northere two thirds of the Mississippi Valley across the upper Great Lakes and the lower Ohio Valley Show showers will be scattered in in lower elevations from central Wyoming through north-western Montara, with rain along the Pacific Nonthwest coast. Temperatures will be very cold from eastern Wyoming through western portions of the Plains from South Dakota across Kansas. Elsewhere temperatures will remain seasonably cool or cold.
