Lois A. Federico, 44, a nurse consultant with the U.S. Public Health Service who worked on training programs for nurses, died of cancer Saturday at the Washington Home Hospice.She lived in Chevy Chase.
Miss Federico was born in Southampton, N.Y. She first came to Washington in 1952 to attend the Georgetown University school of nursing, from which she graduated in 1956. She worked at a number of places around the country and then returned here in the mid-1960s to work at the Neurological Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
She earned a master's degree in nursing at Catholic University in 1967 and then joined the Public Health Service. At the time of her death, she was a doctoral candidate at George Washington University.
Miss Federico was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the national honor society of nursing. In 1971, she received a Superior Service Honor Award from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
Survivors, include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Federico, of Easport, N.Y.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Lois A. Federico Foundation at the Montgomery County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
