Metropolitan area students will compete in the horticulture art contest sponsored by The Flower and Garden Show, to be held March 2 through 7 at the Starplex/Armoty.

Students in the seventh through twelfth grades in Alexandria, the District, and Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince George's counties are taking part. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to the final first place winner at the senior level.

Each participating school district will select its top three winners and the 108 winning works will be on display at the show.

The show is sponsored by the D.C. Branch of the Professional Grounds Management Society in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution Office of Horticulture, U.S. National Arboretum and the National Capital Area Federation of Garden Clubs. The educational sponsor is the University of the District of Columbia Cooperative Extension Service.

School groups have been invited to attend the show during the week at reduced rates. A family night is planned for Sunday, March 4, when characters from King's Dominion will be on hand to greet children.

The Flower and Garden Show will be open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. except opening day, March 2, when the hours are 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the final day, March 7, when the show closes at 8 p.m.

General adult admission is $4, and tickets for children from 6 to 12 are $1.50. Children under six will be admitted free.
