Patricia Burke Ormes, 55, a Philadelphia Urban League official and former Washington resident, died of cancer March 3 at a Philadelphia hospital.

Mrs. Ormes was born in Tuskegee, Ala., and moved to Washington at the age of 12. She was a 1941 graduate of old Dunbar High School and earned a bachelor's degree at Howard University.

She had been a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Washington.

She accompanied her husband, Col. Melvin W. Ormes, to a number of Army posts in this country and abroad before his retirement to Philadelphia in 1965.

Mrs. Ormes began working for the Philadelphia Urban League in 1969, and was director of its housing information center at the time of her death. She also had been a consultant to the Philadelphia office of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In addition to her husband, of the home in Philadelphia, she is survived by her father, W. Spurgeon Burke, and a sister, Doris W. Browne, both of Washington, and another sister, Mary B. Nicholas, of New York City.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Philadelphia Urban League.
