A Prince George's County District Court judge yesterday refused to set bond for two men charged in a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in the fatal stabbing of the wife of one of the two men.
Raymond A. Poellot, 23-the husband of murder victim Patti Johnele Poellot-and James R. Hamilton, 20 both face the death sentence if convicted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
Judges Francis A. Borelli told the pair yesterday that, because of the penalty facing them, they might well chose to flee the ares, so he would not set any bond.
Poellot, of Suitland, and Hamilton, of Washington, were arrested Tuesday following the slayingof Poellot's wife, a 25-year-old Marine Corps corporal. Poellot told prince George's County police that he came home at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday to find his wife dead, her throat slashed.
Police charge that Poellot, a Wackenhut Corp. security guard agreed to pay $5,000 to Hamilton-his supervisor at the firm-and another man if they murdered his wife.
Poellot, police say, suspected that his wife had been dating other men. Sources said that the $5,000 woiuld have come from the proceeds of his wife's life insurance policy.
Police are still searching for the third suspect.
