Richard E Smith, 47, a real estate agent and broker who was president of the Regent Realty Inc.-Century 21 in Falls Church, died Friday at Commonwealth Doctors Hospital in Fairfax after a heart attack.
He had resided in this area for the past 15 years and worked as a regional vice president for the Shannon & Luchs Co. before founding his own firm five years ago.
Mr. Smith was a Certified Residential Broker. He belonged to the Northern Virginia Board of Realtors and the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Springfield Masonic Lodge No. 45, the Kena Shrine Temple, Oriental Band and Scottish Rite bodies.
He was a member of the vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke.
Mr. Smith was a native of Weldon, N.C., and a graduate of Upper Iowa University. He also was a graduate of the realtors institute at the Universtity of Virginia. He was a veteran of the Air Force during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa, and a stepdaughter, Jill Proctor, both of the home in Fairfax; a daughter, Susan Renee, and a son, Richard E Jr., both by a previous marriage, who live in Stafford, Ariz.; his mother, Susan Smith, and a brother, Ronald P., both of Richmond.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the property fund of the Church of the GoodShepherd.
