Sgt. Bernard H. Dixon, 50, a member of the Prince George's County police department for nearly 20 years, died of cardiac arrest Friday at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base.
Sgt. Dixon joined the force in July 1959, and was assigned to the Bureau of Patrol. He was promoted to sergeant in 1971, and was a sector supervisor for District III, the Suitland-Forestville area, at the time of his death.
He received 10 commendations during his police career.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 89.
Sgt. Dixon was a native of Frederick, Md., and a graduate of Frederick High School. He served with Army occupation forces in Germany following World War II.
He i survived by his wife, Barbara Jean, of the home in District Heights; a son, Donald W., of Suitland; a daughter, Sharon Louise Netherton, of Clinton; his mother, Mamie W. Dixon, and a sister, Leona D. Castle, both of Adamstown, Md.; two other sisters, Helen Frances Showbridge and Marie D. Laratte, both of Frederick; two brothers, George T., of District Heights, and Russell E., of Phoenix, Ariz., and five grandchildren. CAPTION: Picture, SGT. BERNARD H. DIXON
