A 48-year-old Northeast Washington woman was found beaten to death yesterday in the bedroom of her apartment at 1260 Holbrook Ter. NE, D.C. police reported.
The woman, identified as Agnes Conway, was discovered about 3:30 p.m. after neighbors notified police that they had not seen her for some time.
Investigators said she had been beaten about the body with a heavy object and had been dead for several days. There was no sign of forced entry to the first-floor apartment, and police said they had not determined a motive for the slaying.
Police said Conway, who was employed as a domestic, had lived in the apartment with her husband, who could not be located last night.
In an unrelated incident yesterday, Charles Winburn, 33, was critically injured a fight with another man in the 2700 block of 14th Street NW, police said.
Police said Winburn suffered massive head injuries when he was struck in the head with a metal pipe during the 5:30 p.m. incident.
Officials at Washington Hospital Center said Winburn, of 2618 13th St. 'NW, was in "very critical condition early today in the intensive care unit. No arrests have been made in the incident, police said.
