The fireworks display scheduled for last night on the Washington Monument grounds will be held tonight. The 30-minute display will begin at 9:15 p.m.

Other events that were scheduled or rescheduled for tonight include:

A concert at the Capitol by the National Symphony Orchestra. The program, featuring patriotic and martial music, will begin at 8 p.m.

A U.S. Navy band concert at the Jefferson Memorial at 8 p.m.

A fireworks display at Fort Washington, Md, which will begin at 9:30 p.m.

A fireworks display scheduled for last night at Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts has been canceled.

A musical program that was to have preceded the fireworks at the Monument grounds also has been cancled. Those watching the fireworks over the Mall can listen to accompanying band music on radio station WWDC [AM-1260].

A spokesman for Metro said that a decision on whether or not free bus and subway service will be provided after tonight's fireworks display will be made at a meeting of the Metro board this morning.

Free rides had been scheduled for 9 p.m. to midnight last night to help clear the expected crowds from the mall area quickly. When the fireworks display was postponed, Metro began offering free rides from the Mall at 6 p.m.

The Metro Spokesman noted that if no special service is provided today, both trains and buses would operate on normal daytime and evening weekday schedules.
