The Department of Environmental Services, which inspects District food establishments for compliance with the "truth in menu" law, cited the following restaurants for disparities in menu listings during regular inspections June 18-22:

El Caribe, 1828 Columbia Rd. NW - Inspectors said what was described on the menu as "fresh breaded squid" was frozen.

Cote D'Azur, 2101 Wisconsin Ave. NW - "Ham" was pork shoulder picnic.

Grog & Tankard, 2408 Wisconsin Ave. NW - "Veal cutlet" was veal steak.

John's Coffee, 3300 Whitehaven St. NW - "ham" was pork shoulder picnic.

Petitto's, 2653 Connecticut Ave. NW - "Fresh egg noodles" and "fresh pastries" were not made on the premises.

The department also cited the following businesses for failure to comply with the D.C. General Food Regulations:

7th & N Streets Market, 1252 N St. NW, had 15 violations; Dan's house of Chop Suey, 1601 Benning Rd. NE, had 19 violations; Szechuan East, 1805 H St. NW, had 26 violations.

Reinspections were conducted June 18-25 and the following establishments were found to be in substantial compliance with the D.C. regulations: 7th & N Streets Market, Dan's House of Chop Suey, M&A Quick Stop, 4911 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave. NE, and Szechuan East.
