Pines of Rome, 4709 Hampden La., Bethesda. 657-8775. A neighborhood Italian restaurant. Homemade pasta entrees range from $3.50 to $4.50; seafood, veal and meat dishes are in $4 to $8 rang. Open from noon to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Man in the Green Hat, 301 Massachusetts Ave. NE. 546-5900. Salads, sandwiches and chili range from $2.95 to $4.95, and entrees which include two side dishes, from $5.95 to $9.95. Open 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 5:30 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until midnight Friday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. to midnight Saturday; Sunday brunch 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed for dinner. Reservations accepted for dinner and for lunch until noon.

La Fourchette, 2429 18th St. NW. 332-3077. French cooking in Adams-Morgan. From quiche lorraine at $3 to entrees including pork, beef and chicken, served with fine sauces, from about $5.75 to $8.75. Open noon to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 6 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sunday.

Crisfield Sea Food Restaurant, 8012 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring. 589-1306. Dinners from $7.25 to $16.75 for stuffed lobster tails, with plenty of variety in between, and children's dinners for $4.50. Open 11 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. Credit cards and reservations not accepted; wait is often long on weekends.

The Bali, 1426 21st St. NW. 293-1776. Indonesian cuisine. Most dishes range from $4.75 to $5.95 with some fancier offerings, and a hamburger with fries, at $2.45, for the timid. Open for lunch noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday; dinner, 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Pancho Villa, 5530 Norbeck Rd., Rockville. 871-8554. From tacos for $1.50 to carne de res de Mazatlan (steak in a savory sauce), at $8.95; most entrees in the $4 to $6 range. Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. sevan days a week. A strolling guitarist every day. Reservations advisable on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Viet Huong Restaurant, 2928 M St. NW. 337-5588. One of the best among Vietnamese restaurants. Dinner entrees from $3.25 to $6.95; luncheon specials, $3.25. Open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday. Credit cards not accepted.

Duck Chang's Restaurant, 4427 John Marr Dr., Annandale. 941-9400. Entrees from $3.25 to $15.95 for Peking duck, with family and group dinners at varied prices in between; Sunday buffet is $4.25 for adults, $2.25 for children. Open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, with buffet served until 4 p.m. Reservations needed for four or more persons Monday through Thursday, and for eight or more on weekends.

Dancing Crab, 4611 Wisconsin Ave., NW. 244-1882. Crabs and other delicious offerings. Samples: Fried Louisiana shrimp at $6.95, medium crabs at $1.25 each, Alaskan king crab legs with drawn butter at $8.95. Monday is explorers night: platter including scallops, oysters, lobsters and fish, $9.95. Call for information on all you-can-eat-feasts Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays. A few sandwiches and cold plates for non seafood people. Open 11:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday; 2 p.m. to midnight Sunday. No reservations except on Monday.

Cafe Italia, 519 S. 23rd St., Arlington. 521-2565. Good Italian food in an informal atmosphere. Dishes from spaghetti at $4.50 to entrees around $7.50 and pizzas from $7 to $9. Open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 11 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday; 3 to 11 p.m. Sunday.

The Warehouse, 214 King St., Alexandria. 683-4112. A family restaurant in Old Town. Hamburger platters start at $2.75 and complete dinners range from $3.95 to $10 for a filet mignon, with mid-priced staples such as pizza, fish and fried chicken. Open 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Sunday brunch, with offerings from $2.50 to $4.25 for steak and eggs, served 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Chez Juliette, 107 W. Broad St., Falls Church. 532-9290. A neighborly Vietnamese place. Vietnamese dishes average $5; a few French dishes are served; the most expensive is steak in mushroom and pepper sauce at $7. Open 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Credit cards not accepted but personal checks are taken.
