Roy Taylor Kinney, 12, of Annandale, who was fatally injured in an accident at a construction site near his home on July 1, was a student at Frost Intermediate School in Fairfax.
He was injured when a concrete sewer pipe section rolled over him while he and a friend played on a hill at the site. He died at Fairfax Hospital that day.
Roy had finished the seventh grade at Frost school and had a leading part in the school's spring play, "The Hobbit." He had played defensive end and linebacker on the Fairfax YMCA football team and belonged to aquatic and tennis clubs in Fairfax.
He was born in Honululu, and had lived in Los Altos, Calif., Norfolk, Pensacola, Fla., and Stuttgart, West Germany, before moving to Annandale in January 1978.
Survivors include his parents, Navy Capt. and Mrs. Ben Jack Kinney, a brother, John and two sisters, Karen and Katy, all of the home, and his grandmother, Mrs. Hylmer Karbach, of New Braunfels, Tex.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Roy Taylor Kinney Memorial Fund, 8508 Overbrook Rd., Fairfax, 2030. The funds will be used for gift for Frost Intermediate School. CAPTION: Picture, ROY T. KINNEY
