A new shuttle bus route for Anacostia area residents is part of a program of Metrobus schedule changes to take place this Sunday.

The new service in Southeast, designated Route W2, will operate with small vehicles in the residential areas bounded by St. Elizabeth's Hospital, I-295, Portland Street and Martin Luther King Avenue.

Residents of that area, who have never had public transit service, requested the service so they could avoid walks of up to a half mile to Martin Luther King Avenue and the nearest bus service.

The shuttle will operate every 12 to 15 minutes between 6 aand 10 a.m. and 3 to 10 p.m. weekdays and provide a connection with Metrobuses operating on Martin Luther King Avenue and Portland Street.

Route changes will also be made on Routes 46 (Mount Pleasant); 70, 71 and 73 (Georgia Avenue-7th Street); 80 (North Capitol Street); A1, A2, A4, A/4, A5, A6 and A8 (Anacostia-Congress Heights); B9 (Carter Barron Fringe); D2, D4 and D8 (Glover Park-Trinidad); H2 and H4 (Crosstown); H6 (Brookland-Kennedy Center); K2, K4, K6 and K8 (New Hampshire-Fort Totten Line); M2 (Capitol Hill-Fourth Street); M8 (Downtowner Midibus); N1, N2, N3, N4, N5 and N6 (Massachusetts Avenue); P1, P2 and P7 (Takoma-Petworth); and R2, R4, R6 and R7 (Queens Chapel Road).

New timetables on those routes are available by mail by calling 637-1261. For information on route changes by telephone, call 637-2437.
