Gertrude Blackwell Buscher, 59, a member of the Montgomery County Health Services board, died of a heart attack Friday at her home in Silver Spring.
She also was a regional coordinator of the legislative liaison program at the University of Maryland. $5Mrs. Buscher was born in New York. She grew up in Washington. She had attended the Katharine Gibbs School in New York and was a graduate of the University of Maryland.
During World War II, she was an analyst and communications division executive secretary with the War Production Board.
She had been active in Democratic political campaigns in Maryland and Montgomery County and at the time of her death was Democratic precinct chairperson for the Ninth Precinct, Fifth District in Colesville.
Mrs. Buscher had been active in raising funds for such organizations as the Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the United Givers Fund.
She was a member of the Congressional Country Club and the Washington chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her husband, Charles B., of the home; two sons, Peter Blackwell of Orlando, Fla., and Ned Blackwell of Los Angeles; two stepchildren, Marian Dodson of Gaithersburg, and Charles B. Buscher, Jr. of Missoula, Mont., and two grandchildren.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Holy Cross Hospital.
