One person was killed and two persons were wounded critically in two shooting incidents in Prince George's County Tuesday night. Two other persons were fatally shot in the District and a D.C. policewoman was wounded by gunfire in other incidents yesterday.
A 27-year-old Hillside woman was shot to death in her apartment last night and her male companion was critically wounded during an argument with another man, Prince George's County police said.
The woman, Millicent Haywood, of 2140 Brooks Dr., was pronounced dead at the scene. Her companion, Vincent Young, 23, was reported to be in critical condition at Prince George's County Hospital.
D. C. police charged James Frederick Porter, 27, of 2300 Good Hope Rd. SE, as a fugitive in the 8 p. m. incident. Prince George's County police have issued warrants for Porter's arrest on charges of murder and assault with intent to murder.
In the District, a 25-year-old policewoman was shot in the right leg during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect in a narcotics case, D. C. police said.
Officer Doris Bliss Young was treated and released from Washington Hospital Center. The bullet penetrated, then exited, her leg, doctors said. h
Police said Young and Officer Ethel Jones, 29, were questioning a man in the 400 block of Ridge Street NW, who allegedly had been seen making a narcotics transaction. The man suddenly ran from them into an alley, police said. When the two officers ran after him, the man began firing shots at them, and Young returned fire.
The man then fired two more shots, and one of them struch Young in the leg. Police said they did not know whether the man, who escaped, had been hit.
Early yesterday, the bodies of two men who had been shot were found in different areas of the District, police said. Police identified one victim as James Tillman Rose, 22, of 5334 James Pl. NE, who was discovered by a bicyclist in woods in the 400 block of 55h Street NE. The other victim was Jonathan Howell, 24, a former mechanic with no fixed address, whose body was found at Benning Road and B Street SE, investigators said.
Homicide detectives said both men apparently were shot during attempted robberies.
In Prince George's County Tuesday night, a 29-year-old man was shot and critically wounded during an argument at 8425 Hamlin St., Landover. Police are searching for three persons who fled in a Ford Mustang.
Police would not release the name of the injured man, who is is Prince George's General Hospital.
