Charles R. Brasche, 51, a civilian accountant and auditor with the Navy Department for nearly 20 years who was active in Northern Virginia youth groups, died Sunday at Fairfax Hospital. He had leukemia and Hodgkin's disease.
For the past 12 years, Mr. Brasche had lived in Falls Church and worked for the National Capital Region of the Naval Audit Service. Prior to that he had worked as a Navy auditor in San Diego for seven years.
Mr. Brasche had coached football, baseball, and basketball teams for youth groups in both McLean and Falls Church.
He was a native of Waterbury, Conn., and a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Tex. He served in the Air Force in the early 1950s and worked for the Texaco oil company in Texas before joining the Navy Department.
Mr. Brasche was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church and its men's club. He also belonged to the Edward Douglas White Council of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel N., a son James C., and a daughter, Muriel N., all of Falls Church; a brother, Ernest of Chula Vista, Calif., and a sister, Elizabeth Flower of San Diego, Calif.
