Prince George's County public school officials urge parents, students and school employes to listen to the radio or television for announcements on school closings or delayed openings due to bad weather.

Most announcements will be made by 5:30 a.m. when a decision is not made until early morning. If no announcement is made by 6:30 a.m., the public should assume schools are planning a normal day, officials say.

When bad weather requires early closing, an announcement will be made as soon as the decision is made, usually by 11 a.m. More than 30 radio and TV stations will be contacted by school officials.

Telephoning individual schools, the central county office, radio stations or police ties up phone lines that may be needed for emergency business, officials say.

When school opening is delayed, classes for all pupils will begin one or two hours late. School buses will make regular runs, but at the later times. If schools are closed early, afternoon Kindergarten classes will not be held. i

When county schools cancel classes for the day or close early, all evening classes are canceled for that night and will meet at the next regularly scheduled session. Athletic activities and PTA meetings also are automatically canceled.
