Joan W. Netherly, 73, former executive manager of the National Association of Bank Women and a resident of the Washington area since 1970, died of cancer Saturday at Surburban Hospital. She lived in Bethesda.
A resident of New York from 1953 to 1970, she had been associated there with the Presbyterian Hospital of New York City, the Parents League of New York and the National Board of the YMCA before taking a position with the National Association of Bank Women in 1961. She retired in 1970. w
Mrs. Netherly was born in Clay County, Mo., and grew up in Lawson, Mo. She was a graduate of Rockford College in Illinois and did graduate work at the University of Missouri.
She at one time was a teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota.
Mrs. Netherly was active in the Bethesda Presbyterian Church, the Janet Montgomery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Chapter B, Chevy Chase, of the PEO, a philanthropic organization.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia J. Netherly of Fredonia, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. E. John Long, of Rockville and three grandchildren.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
