Three men have been charged with armed robbery of a Northwest Washington woman who was bound, gagged and blindfolded in her MacArthur Boulevard apartment Tuesday.
The suspects were arrested at 17th and K streets NW shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, about an hour after the incident in the 4500 block of MacArthur Boulevard in which more than $2,000 worth of jewelry and other property allegedly was taken.
The three also were charged in warrants obtained by Montgomery County police with rape and robbery in what was described as a brutal attack on a Silver Spring woman last month.
Police said Tuesday's robbery occurred after a woman answered a knock on her door and found a man who identified himself as an exterminator. The woman let the man in, and, when her back was turned, police said, he opened the door for two other men armed with guns. All three men left after tying the woman and ransacking the apartment, police said.
The woman managed to use her hands, which were tied behind her back, to dial police on her telephone.
The arrests, police said, resulted from witnesses' descriptions of a getaway car.
Jailed in the District were Allen J. Mathews, 26, of 212 L St. SE; Alex Smith, 27, of 300 50th St. NE, and Delonte E. Taylor 21 of 218 50th St. NE.
