Donald L. Leighton Sr., 52, a sales representative with the Macke Co. in Cheverly, died Thursday at Prince George's General Hospital after a heart attack.
He had been with the firm for about 12 years. He lived in Rogers Heights, Md.
Mr. Leighton was born in Mobile, Ala. He grew up in the Washington area and graduated from Bladensburg High School.
He served with the Army Air Corps in the latter part of World War II, and was with an aircraft control warning squadron with the Japanese occupation forces after the war.
Mr. Leighton graduated from Georgetown University in 1951 and also attended its law school. He worked as a salesman for a number of firms before joining Macke.
He was a member of the Free State Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also had been an active member of the Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and the Prince George's County Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he was a first aid instructor and member of the disaster team.
He is survived by his wife, the former Annie Neal Suggs of Rogers Heights; three children, Donald L. Jr., of Forestville, and James Duncan and Kevin Alexander, both of Rogers Heights, and his mother, Lela Mae Leighton of Mount Rainier.
