The Fairfax County police department's SWAT team used a barrage of tear gas to shut down a noisy party early yesterday, then arrested all seven party-goers, county authorities reported.
Police said they received complaints early Sunday morning about a noisy party at 3000 Patrick Henry Dr. in the Willston apartments near Seven Corners. Armed with warrants for violation of the county's noise ordinance, police went to the apartments. They said the residents wouldn't let them in and lengthy negotiations over the phone also failed. So the police department's special operations (SWAT) team was called in.
Penny J. Cox, 19, one of the residents, was arrested on a charge of violating the noise ordinance, curse and abuse and assault, and Nancy Tannahill, 19, another resident, was arrested on a charge of violating the noise ordinance, police reported.
Five visitors were arrested on charges of being drunk in public after disorderly behavior, police said. They were identified as Kenneth E. Dewar, 20, of the 1500 block of N. Garfield St., Arlington; Dennis R. Sullivan, 22, of the 4000 block of N. 25th St., Arlington; Jeffrey J. Martin, 21, of the 1700 block of N. Monroe St.; Robert A. Miler, 19, of the 9600 block of Burke Lake Rd., Fairfax, and Thomas D. Clementson, 24, of the 3000 block of Patrick Henry Dr.
