The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has appointed members of the Committee on City Status, which was authorized April 7 to study the possibility of incorporating the city as a county.

The supervisors have asked the committee to study options available under city and county status and to report back to the supervisors before their summer recess in August.

The committee members include:

Carrington Williams, chairman; John Chivat, Annandale; Carmin J. Caputo, Centreville; former Virginia governor A. Linwood Holton, Dranesville; John Lynch, Lee; Davis Huddleston, Mason; Bruce Talley, Mount Vernon Richard Camaur, Springfield; former county sheriff James Swinson, at-large; state Sen. Joseph Gartlan, Senate Local Government Committee; Del. John H. Rust Jr., House Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns; Mike Ellis, Federal of Citizens Association; Steven D. Stone, county Chamber of Commerce; Barbara Shanahan, Fairfax League of Women Voters.

Three alternate members also were nominated to the committee; 1st alternate, Florence E. Townsend, Chamber of Commerce; 2nd alternate, Donald R. Childress, Northern Virginia Board of Realtors; 3rd alternate, Bruce C. Roades, Northern Virginia Builders Association.

Mayors of three area towns will serve as ex-officio members: Maylor M. F. McIntyre, of Clifton; Thomas Rust, of Herndon, and Charles A. Robinson Jr., of Vienna.
