On Tuesday, May 6, 1980, Beaumont, Tex., DR. CHARLES O. BRUCE of Beaumont, Tex., beloved husband of Edythe Ann Bruce; father of Michael C. Bruce of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Kevin Smith of Bethesda, Md. Dr. Bruce was born in Holdrege, Neb., and received his medical degree there in 1934. He interned at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and received a master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in 1949.He joined the army in 1937 and served as medical director for the United States base in British Guiana in 1941. In 1942 he became deputy surgeon of the fifth army in North Africa and Italy. His post war years were spent in Washington, D.C., where he served in the surgeon general's office, the office of Department of Defense and as senior military assistant to the secretary of the army. He was also on the general staff. From 1955 to 1958 Dr. Bruce was health director for the Panama Canal Zone. On retiring from the army in 1959, he came to Beaumont as medical director for Neches Butrane Products Company. He was past chairman of the Industrial Education Committee, Southeast Texas Heart Association and a past president of the Southeast Texas Health Foundation and of the Texas Industrial Medical Association. Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Dr. Bruce, to the charity of your choice. Interment Arlington National Cemetery, at 10 a.m., on Monday, May 19, 1980, with full military honors.
