Below is list of commencement exercises scheduled at area universities and colleges in the coming week:
ANTIOCH SCHOOL OF LAW, 1624 Crescent Place NW -- Commencement for 140 graduates will be at 2 p.m. May 25 in the Meyer House garden. The speaker will be announced later.
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, 37th and O streets NW -- Main Campus commencement for 1,877 graduates will be at 2 p.m. May 25 on the Healy lawn. A baccalaureate mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on the Copley lawn. In case of rain, mass and commencement will be at the McDonough Arena, with the College of Arts and Sciences commencement at 5 p.m. and other schools at previously scheduled times. The speaker is Gov. William J. Clinton of Arkansas, a 1968 graduate of the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. He will receive an honarary doctor of humane letters degree. Other honarary degrees will go to: Walter Gerard Davis, director of the AFL-CIO Department of Education; Roman Jakobson, Czechoslovakian professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; former ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge; Donald H. McGannon, president and chairman of the board of Westinghouse Broadcasting Co.; Jessie M. Scott, director of the division of nursing at the U.S. Public Health Service; Joseph Scavone, English teacher at the Bronx High School of Science; Ilya Prigogine, professor of physics at the University of Brussels, and James G. Serpe, Loyola Academy, Wilmette, Ill. William F. Ragan, a senior in the Washington law firm of Ragan & Mason, will be awarded the John Carroll Medal of Merit.
Law Center commencement for 750 graduates will be at 1:30 p.m. May 26 on the Healy lawn. An interfaith thanksgiving service will be at 10 a.m., Gaston Hall, Healy Building. The speaker is Judge David Lionel Bazelon of the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District. Bazelon and the following persons will receive honarary doctor of laws degrees: Roger N. Baldwin, consultant for the American Civil Liberties Union; John L. Loeb Jr., partner and former president of Loeb, Rhoades & Co.; Wade Hampton McCree Jr., solicitor general of the United States; Soia Mentschikoff, dean of the University of Miami School of law; Arturo G. Ortega, senior partner, Ortega and Snead; Millard H. Ruud, executive director, Association of American Law Schools, and U.S. Supreme Court Jstice Potter Stewart.
GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY -- School of Medicine and Health Sciences commencement for 192 graduates will be at 3:30 p.m. May 23 at Lisner Auditorium, 730 21st St. NW. The speaker is Dr. Griff T. Ross, deputy associate director of clinical care at the National Institutes of Health. He will receive an honorary doctor of science degree.
