The following area colleges and universities will have commencement exercises this week:

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, 37th and O streets NW -- Medical school commencement for 211 graduates is set for 3 p.m. May 31 at Kennedy Center Concert Hall. A Baccalaureate Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 36th and O streets NW. The speaker is Philip Anthony Tumulty M.D., David J. Carver professor emeritus of medicine at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Tumulty and four others will receive honorary Doctor of Science degrees. They are Carlton Peter Alexis MD, vice president for health affairs at Howard University; George Bugbee, professor emeritus of the Center for Health Administration Studies of the University of Chicago Graduate School; Raymond Thomas Holden MD, a 1928 graduate of the school of medicine and a professor at Georgetown since 1933, and Julius B. Richmond MD, assistant secretary for health, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and surgeon general of the United States.

MOUNT VERNON, 2100 Foxhall Rd. NW -- Commencement exercises for 124 graduates are scheduled for 3 p.m. June 1 at the College Quadrangle, 2100 Foxhall Rd. NW. The speaker is Partricia Wald, U.S. District Court of Appeals judge. Wald will receive an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters. Similar degrees will be conferred upon Alice Sheets Marriott, a Marriott Corp. executive, and Victoria Schuck, outgoing president of Mount Vernon College.
