Fairfax County Superintendent L. Linton Deck has announced new jobs for 24 elementary school principals. The changes, which involve transfer or promotion of current school personnel, will be effectivie this fall.
Six of the changes result from the closing of seven schools this spring. Those changes include transfers of principals at Walnut Hill, Hollin Hall, Wilton Woods, Devonshire, Hollin Hills and Masonville. Elliot Krash, principal at the seventh school, Edsall Park, has been named the school system's liaison with the General Assembly in Richmond.
All the changes will be effective this fall.
The schools and their new principals:
Annandale Terrace: Lenore Plissner, who has been assistant principal at Orange Hunt for the last year. Plissner, who also has taught at Laurel Ridge, was a member of the county school board from 1968 to 1973.
Bren Mar Park: Bette Scharzman, who has been principal at Masonville for the last year. Masonville was one of seven schools closed this spring. Scharzman has been a resource teacher for Area II and began her Fairfax teaching career in 1969 at Sleepy Hollow.
Camelot: Joe Rucker, now principal at Glen Forest. Rucker also has held several administrative positions in Pennsylvania schools.
Cameron: George Towery, who has been principal at Lorton for the past 10 years. Towery has been a teacher at Crestwood and assistant principal at Braddock. He joined the school system in 1965.
Clifton: Steve Mahoney, principal at Devonshire from 1972 until it was closed this spring. Mahoney began his teaching career in 1953 in Iowa and came to the Fairfax system in 1967 as principal at Woodburn.
Columbia: Mark Summers, now at Bren Mark Park, where he has been principal since 1977. He has taught at Great Falls, has been a principal at Glen Forest and has been a human relations counselor.
Fairfax Villa: James Dellinger, moving from Walnut Hill, where he has been principal for 12 years. Walnut Hill is one of seven elementary schools closed this spring. Dellinger has been assistant principal at Springfield Estates and began his Fairfax teaching career in 1958.
Forest Edge: Sheila Bender, who has been assistant principal at Terraset Elementary since 1976. Bender joined the Fairfax school system in 1968 as a teacher at Lake Anne Elementary. She has taught at Hunters Woods and has held several administrative positions.
Franconia: Fredericka Phelps, moving from Hollin Hills, one of seven schools closed this spring. Phelps has been assistant principal at Floris and has been a counselor and a resource teacher. She joined the Fairfax schools in 1973.
Glen Forest: Yvonne McCall, who has been assistant principal at Groveton Elementary for the last year. McCall has been a teacher at Fairview, teacher-coordinator of the Step-Up Language Arts program and a resource teacher for Area II.
Great Falls: Kay Steiert, who has been acting principal at Columbia for the last year. Steiert has been principal at Wakefield Forest, supervisor of elementary education and coordinator of instructional services.
Hollin Meadows: Donald E. Lytal, moving from Waynewood. Lytal has been a teacher at Washington Mill and assistant principal at Woodley Hills. bHe joined the Fairfax school system in 1963.
Kings Glen: Bernice Howard, who is being transferred from Keene Mill. Howard began working in Fairfax four years ago as assistant principal at Laurel Ridge. She also has been an assistant professor at the old Federal City College (now part of the University of the District of Columbia).
Lewinville: Douglas Dalton, moving from Rose Hill where he has been principal since 1978. Dalton joined the Fairfax schools in 1961 as a remedial reading teacher. He has been in charge of the county's secondary reading program, has served as assistant supervisor for special reading services in Areas I and II and has been principal at Cameron school.
Lorton: John Earman, who has been principal at Franconia since 1975. Earmon has taught at Twain Intermediate and Franconia, has been assistant principal at Braddock and principal at Pimmit Hills-Westgate and Pimmit Hills. He joined the Fairfax school system in 1960.
Mount Eagle: David Lunter, principal at Cameron for the last two years.
Lunter has been with the Fairfax School for 15 years, beginning as a teacher at Rose Hill. He has been assistant principal at Woodley Hills and principal at Laurel Ridge.
Pimmit Hills: Frank Mehm, has been assistant principal at Hutchison for the last year. He has been assistant principal at Herndon and has taught at Shrevewoodo and at Terraset.
Riverside: Charles P. Gray, principal at Wilton Woods since 1977. Wilton Woods closed this spring. In addition to his work at Wilton Woods, Gray has been principal at Lorton and Washington Mill. He joined the Fairfax school system in 1960 as a teacher at Lorton.
Rolling Valley: Robert Clark, who has been principal at Clifton school since 1977. Clark began his career in Fairfax as a teacher at Fairfax Elementary and has been an assistant principal at Spring Hill.
Rose Hill: William Dudgeon, who was principal at Hollin Hall from 1976 until it was closed this spring. Dudgeon has taught at Haycock Elementary, been an assistant principal at Woodley Hills and principal at Bucknell and Markham.
Shrevewood: Patricia Sisson, now assistant principal at Belle View. Sisson has taught at several schools in Fairfax, has been a learning disabilities teacher and acting assistant principal at Stratford Landing.
Sleepy Hollow: Ercell Binns, who has been principal at Fairfax Villa School since 1976. Binns began teaching in Fairfax County in 1966 when he was assigned to Weyanoke school. Before being promoted to principal at Fairfax Villa, he was assistant principals at Kings Park for three years.
Spring Hill: Cosimo Renzi, who has been assistant principal at the school since 1977. Renzi has been a teacher at Westmore and an assistant principal at Glen Forest.
Waynewood: Herman Keith, principal at Riverside since 1968. Keith began teaching in Fairfax in 1960 and has been principal at Centreville.
